I have always wanted to be one of those moms who creates beautiful scrapbooks full of memories for the family to share and enjoy. Unfortunately for me, my inability to cut in a straight line and my husband’s terror of the mess that would appear if I started scrapbooking have held me back from that dream. I was super excited when I had an opportunity to review Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 because I was finally able to create neat scrapbook pages – and not make a huge mess! I took quite a bit longer to review this software than I normally do for products – it completely enthralled me, and I kept finding more things that I absolutely must try before I write my review. I think the extra time was well worth it – I now have cute gifts for our family and friends, but I want to make sure you know about it in time – so you can include it on your gift list. 🙂
Digital Scrapbook Artist 2
The first thing I need to say is wow – I’m sure part of my amazement is because I haven’t used digital scrapbooking before, but a great part is also because of the software that was created by Serif. There is so much that you can do with this program, I don’t really know where to start. Here are the new features in this version:
Those are in addition to the features that Serif introduced in previous versions of the software, including the ability to create your own digikits, cutting and punching, creative text, brushes, edge effects and filter effects. The software also comes with 5 free digikits from DaisyTrail.com – where you can also purchase more digikits to use.
From the website:
Windows-based PC with CD drive and mouse
Microsoft Windows® XP (32 bit), Windows® Vista, or Windows® 7 operating system
512 MB RAM
510 MB (recommended full install) free hard disk space
1024 x 768 monitor resolution
Additional disk resources and memory are required when editing large or complex documents.
Note: To enjoy the full benefit of brushes and their textures, you’ll need a computer whose processor supports SSE. On brush selection, an on-screen message will indicate if your computer is non-SSE.
TWAIN-compatible scanner and/or digital camera
Internet account and connection required for accessing online resources and scrapbook upload
Now that we have all the nitty gritty details out of the way, let me tell you what I think about the product. I love it. I know you’re sitting there saying, yeah, but you only agreed to do the review because you loved it, so that’s no big surprise. Well, you’re right. But I loved it more than I thought I would. In fact, if you look up to the top of this post, you will see a graphic for the Just Joanna Holiday Gift Guide. See it? That is one of the things I’ve made with Digital Scrapbook Artist 2. Even someone who normally would not be able to put together anything resembling an adorable graphic can make one with this software.
But it doesn’t end there! There are so many options when creating projects with DSA2 – seriously, it’s awesome. I made a really cute scrapbook of the past year in my son’s life to share with family and friends who are far away from us, and it came out really well. Even though I didn’t know what I was doing beforehand, going through the tutorial and finding digikits on DaisyTrail.com really helped me to get a grasp on what I can be doing with this software. I think next year I will start earlier and make calendars for those on our gift lists. It’s super fun and easy to use. Even though I have a toddler (which means I get distracted every few minutes), I was able to put together some really neat pages even while he was awake.
The downside to me is the purchasing of kits because, well, I’m horribly cheap. But, when you buy DSA2 you get a voucher for free kits. And there are free kits available on DaisyTrail.com, so that makes it super easy. The hard part for me was that my internet connection is really slow, so downloading them took forever. Or maybe it just felt like forever because I had ants in my pants waiting to play around with the new kits. 🙂 Either way, although you do have to buy them, there are frequently sales or coupons that you can use, and there is a very decent selection of free kits available until you find a good enough discount to make you want to buy one (or you find one at full price you just have to have!).
The photolab is amazing and the one feature that I would like to really focus on – you can take out blemishes, red eye, everything with this tool. You can change the picture to black and white or sepia, you can even colorize pictures (where you take part of it and turn it black and white while the rest is in color – I love these photos!). It’s really about endless options of what you can do in the photolab, and it’s what I really played with and took the most time before I was ready to write my review. I would probably buy this software just for the photolab, even if I decided I didn’t want to do any of the scrapbooking. Which isn’t to say the scrapbooking isn’t good, but the value is awesome to just get the photolab.
The Perfect Gift For…
I would recommend Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 for techie moms, aunts and grandmas – even if they don’t scrapbook already. I would also recommend it for new parents who are just starting to realize what a mountain of work it can be to keep widespread family and friends in the loop as their kiddos are growing so quickly. Also, I can think of a ton of teens who would love it – think of those formal dance pictures organized, perfected and jazzed up for them to share with all of their friends! Schools would benefit when they are putting together their end of the year slideshows too!
Try it for yourself
Don’t take my word for it – check out DaisyTrail.com to download your own FREE trial of Digital Scrapbook Artist. You can also check out a neat video with information about it and it’s features. It seriously is easy to get to love scrapbooking with this software.
I was given a review copy of Digital Scrapbook Arist 2 for free. Although I received the software free, the opinions are honest and my own. I received no other compensation for my review.
