10 Ways to Eat Healthier and Save Money
Eat one meatless meal per week - Trade your meat for beans in one meal. Canned or dry (soaking and cooking instructions are on the package) are cheaper than meat and a great source of protein.- Make your meal the focus – No TV, no technology, no distractions. You’ll appreciate your food more, cut back on mindless munching, and stop when you’re no longer hungry.
- Add cabbage to your salad - White or red cabbage is almost always cheaper than leaf and most head lettuce and has awesome nutrients.
- Use a smaller plate - Trick your brain by using a full small plate instead of a halfway filled big plate.
- Don’t clean your plate – Stop when you’re no longer hungry – before you’re full – and leave some food on your plate. You’ll get the hang of smaller portions.
- Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before eating – a whole new kind of pre-drinking! It will help you digest and help you avoid over-eating.
- Take the salt shaker off the table – Salt is a great addition to season food, but Americans severely overuse it. Improve your health by not adding salt.
- Buy frozen vegetables – You get more bang for your buck and the flash frozen veggies still keep most of their nutrients – more than canned veggies.
- Plan your menus ahead of time – Last-minute meals tend to have more calories and cost more money than pre-planned meals.
- Make your plate beautiful – A well-presented dish always feels more filling than one slopped on a plate – your portion will be smaller and your brain will love it.
