We have a relatively small house, so when one of my husband’s coworkers gave us a free piano, we weren’t quite sure where to put it. Somehow it ended up in the boys’ playroom, which in retrospect was not the best idea, but then it was easier than making all four or five of the guys who moved it try different locations. Unfortunately, while it was in the playroom my oldest son found some stickers from the Disney movie club envelope and decided they would make excellent decorations… and so we ended up with this:
Those are stickers on the top of the piano, there are also some on the bench, but for these are the ones that bug me the most. So I decided that I would find a way to get them off without spending a ton of money or scratching up the piano, and here are the results:
Amazing! So do you wonder how the before become the after? Let me tell you – it took a long time and lots of elbow grease, but it wasn’t too hard at all and it looks fantastic now. Here’s my secret…
vegetable oil removes stickers from wood!
I know, when I first thought about that solution I wasn’t convinced. I think I read it on a gardening forum somewhere originally. But I decided to put it to the test. After a little while I was able to take off the top paper layer of each sticker. Then I could see how saturated the sticky part was with the oil.
And finally, with enough rubbing in circles they all started to fall off. It was like dominoes falling because as soon as one finally came off, the others weren’t too far behind.
My piano isn’t in the best shape, but at least it doesn’t have stickers on it anymore!
