I was inspired this morning when I heard Fergalicious on the radio on my way into work. I just knew I was destined to write a post on Fitness! As I sang along to her song this morning, as I have many mornings in the past, I felt as though I could proudly belt out that section about being up in the gym working on my fitness. Because yes, it’s true, I too have been working on my fitness!
I have always considered myself chunky. When I was a kiddo, I was not exactly thin. Looking back at pictures of myself in high school, I look much thinner than I felt. (I could see my clavicles, like really really well!) When I took my first computer job, I gained weight. Once I met my husband and started cooking for him, we both gained weight. Of course when I was pregnant, I gained weight. I actually found out I was pregnant during the first real, determined diet that I had ever started. As a mother, I have had a hard time losing the weight because I seem to never have enough time for anything.
Then I found MomOnTheRun on twitter! I was watching her updates one day, when I noticed that she, too, is a Payroll SHE (c) (thanks Flylady!). But I also noticed that she was posting updates like – going for a lunchtime run! One day I finally summoned up the courage and asked her what does she do about sweating? I hate sweating. When I get warm, my face and head start sweating. And I’m not talking like a little shiney. I’m talking the drippy gross sweating. The rest of my body can be fine, but my face sweats like a pig. My brother is the same way, and it appears my son will be as well. Ew. So I had a huge concern about exercising at work due to the sweat factor.
She told me that she packs a bag with extra undies, socks (or maybe I added that one?)), deodorant, perfume and a towel. I thought to myself, “Joanna, you could handle that. You’re not working out in the mornings before work or at night after work, so get your butt in gear!” And this Monday I started bringing my own bag to work. It makes for a funny sight coming or going, what with my laptop bag, pump bag, lunch bag, purse AND workout bag, but I am here to tell you – it’s worth it. I highly recommend to all of you to get your fitness on and if you’re at work? Lunch is a great time. Plus, as Janice pointed out, it helps you to eat healthier too since there’s not enough time to workout AND grab fast food!
I have a half an hour lunch, so I walk for 20 minutes, come in and clean up. I nibble at my lunch at my desk while I’m working so that I have enough time for both. Janice said that she used to go to the mall for lunch, so for her it is really helping her save money as well! For me, I used to just work through lunch, and it is giving me an awesome (and deserved) break during the middle of the day, which helps to break up the dreariness and guilt of missing my son.
One more thing to mention – I have heard of SO many ladies who have been posting their progress from Wii Fit Mommies! While I don’t personally have a Wii Fit, I would love to congratulate and cheer on all the ladies who have been working out and getting fit on the Wii. Julie was even kind enough to pass on her buttons to me so that I can proudly display my support for all the Wii Fit Mommies! See it on the right hand sidebar?
Even if you don’t have a Wii, go there! Write a Fitness Friday post! Add it to Mr. Linky! Support the health and fitness of moms everywhere – we all know how hard it is, let’s support each other!
